Palm Tree Strong by Patrice

Updated: Jun 24

I’m passionate about palm trees! There’s so much we can learn from them. Did you know there are 2600 species of palm trees?

Actually, palm trees are not trees, but members of the grass family. They have no bark. And if you were to slice across one, on the inside you’d find there are no tree rings, simply a bundle of fibers. Their life spans are amazing much like humans. Coconut bearing palms live 80 to 90 years. While the iconic Mexican fan palms can live up to 100 years. Oh the stories they could tell!

Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated with palm trees. This is due in large part to the fact that my Armenian Mom, was raised in Florida where palm trees abound! So growing up, we spent our summers in Florida visiting with our grandparents.

On several occasions I remember being present during hurricanes. The day after a hurricane, we would walk on the beach early in the morning looking at all the shells that had washed ashore, not to mention tree limbs down, and signs damaged...

And yet, much to my surprise, I never saw a palm tree down!

Firsthand from my childhood, I remember observing several qualities about palm trees that have stuck with me. Here are a few:

1. Palm trees are flexible. They bend during life’s storms, but they don’t break!

2. Palm trees are resilient. They bounce back after life’s trials!

3. Palm trees often grow in groups. They are stronger in community.

Psalms 92:19a says: “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree...” Palm tree strength! What Hope and Inspiration God’s Promise brings. Not just to get by, but to flourish! To thrive. To live well. To prosper like a palm tree!

In these difficult days, my prayer is for us to rise up, stand firm and tall; to become “palm tree strong” TOGETHER!

“Change your thoughts. Change your world. Become who you’re meant to be!” Patrice
